Adding Beauty and Joy to the Planet, One Bead at a Time!
Vicki has been beading for over 50 years. She first learned loom-weaving on a cigar box loom in Camp Fire Girls when she was 8 years old. She's been happily beading ever since. Stringing Love Beads in the '60s, making feather earrings in the '70s, she began creating fused glass jewelry in the early 1980s. Buying beads to go with her glass led her to The Shepherdess in San Diego, launching her professional bead career. Since then, Vicki has been teaching, designing, and writing, with a focus on beadweaving. She has worked at The Shepherdess in San Diego, CA, Oskadusa in Solana Beach, CA, and Beads'N More in Akron, OH. She was an original partner in Beady Eyed Women, had a travelling bead shop and conducted Beady Eyed Women’s Bead Retreats with Jeannette Cook in the '90s. She has taught classes across the country. Vicki has twice been a guest artist on the DIY Jewelry Making Show.
Vicki is the author or co-author of the following beading workbooks:
Beady Eyed Women's Guides to Exquisite Beadwork: A Peyote Stitch Primer, A Netting Primer, A Bead and Weave Primer, A Fringe & Edge Tassel & Trim Primer, and An Off-Loom Bead Weaving Primer (All Self-published. They're out of print, but currently available in digital form under the title Basic Beadwork Techniques.)
Her books Beading with Peyote Stitch and Beading with Herringbone Stitch are available directly from Amazon.com or your favorite LBS.
Beadweaving consists of beads and thread. There is no ground or backing, so if there were no beads, the work would fall apart. There are many techniques for weaving beads. Each results in a different texture. And then there are the beads! By combining bead sizes, shapes, colors, and techniques, one can create infinite projects.
